SAR ADVANCED SEMINAR: WOMEN AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH
SAR welcomes applications for an Advanced Seminar that focuses on the situation of women in developing countries and gives routes to actual, practical measures for improving their health, prosperity, and general well-being, as part of a program financed by the Vera R. Campbell Foundation. Several seminar attendees must be women academics or scholars/practitioners from developing countries, as one of the seminar’s purposes is to promote professional connections and the exchange of relevant experiences.
Proposals may address global issues or address specific regional issues. Above all, participants should be dedicated to making actual improvements in the lives of women and developing feasible suggestions for that goal. Above all, participants should be dedicated to generating actual advances in the lives of women, as well as feasible suggestions for that purpose. Seminars on broad policy topics will be evaluated based on whether or not realistic implementation approaches are discussed.
The Women and Development Seminar will bring together ten researchers, including one or two who will act as chair/s, for five days of rigorous debate at SAR’s Santa Fe campus. Participants evaluate ongoing research, evaluate new theoretical and methodological advancements, and discuss data pertinent to broad anthropological challenges.
Seminar papers are distributed to attendees at least one month before the seminar and are debated throughout the sessions. These conversations are followed by a discussion of cross-cutting topics and a concept synthesis. Following the seminar, the chair must provide a summary of 1,500 words for inclusion on the School’s website and in the annual report. Work produced as a consequence of the seminar may be considered for publication by SAR Press.

The seminar chair(s) should prepare a public presentation that provides a high-level overview of the project. This talk will be videotaped and posted on SAR’s YouTube channel.

The AAUW International Fellowship Program offers the following perks to participants.

AAUW International Fellowship Program Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy the following criteria to be eligible for the AAUW International Fellowship Program:
- Language required: English
- Except for the United States, all countries in the globe are eligible.
- Have citizenship in a nation other than the United States, or have a non-immigrant visa if resident in the United States. Women who are now or anticipate to be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or dual citizens of the United States and another country are not eligible.
- Have an academic degree (earned in the United States or overseas) equal to a U.S. bachelor’s degree before November 15, 2020.

- During the fellowship year, master’s/first professional degree and doctorate applicants must be enrolled in a U.S.-approved institution located in the United States.
- GWI members are eligible for a limited number of prizes for study or research in any country other than their own. It should be noted that worldwide branches of US institutions exist.
- Candidates must be enrolled in a full year of study or research. International Fellowships do not cover the cost of a half year of study or research. Programs that expire before the conclusion of the fellowship year in April are ineligible.
- Traditional classroom-based programs of study at colleges or higher institutions are supported by master’s/first professional degrees and doctorate fellowships. This program does not give financial support for distance-learning or online programs, or for degrees that are heavily reliant on distance-learning components. AAUW will make final decisions on what qualifies distant learning under these fellowships.
